9ct Gold Ball Stud 3 mm, photographed as a single piece

Sealed for hygiene — cannot be returned once opened

This piece goes through a piercing, so it is sent in a sealed pack with a tamper-evident seal. Once that seal is broken it cannot be returned for hygiene and health reasons. Unopened, it still carries the full 14-day right to cancel. Faults and wrong items are always put right. Read the returns policy.

Nickel and reactions

Nickel-safe — tested to UK REACH limits (BS EN 1811).

Meeting the nickel release limit is not a promise that nobody will react. Some people react to other metals or materials — cobalt, chromium, resins and platings among them. If your ears are sensitive, wear a new piece for a short period first and see how it settles.

In detail

Solid 375 gold — not plated, not filled, not vermeil — so the alloy at the post is the same alloy you see at the front. The post is 0.8 mm across and 9 mm long with a butterfly clutch. At 0.5 g per piece this sits below the 1 g statutory exemption weight for gold, so it carries no hallmark.

Looking after it

Gold does not tarnish the way silver does, but it does pick up skin oils. Warm water, a drop of mild soap, and a soft cloth.

    5 out of 5

Solid gold right through to the post, which is the whole reason I bought them. Small, plain, exactly as described.
